Herrick served as president and chairman of the board of the Society for Savings, Cleveland, Ohio. He also had numerous other local and national business interests. Herrick was involved in Ohio and national Republican party politics, maintaining close ties with Marcus A. Hanna, William McKinley, and other party notables. He won election as Ohio governor in 1903, serving one term. He was appointed United States Ambassador to France in 1912, serving until November 1914. Herrick played a key role in wartime France, both in his participation in diplomatic relations between combatants and in various humanitarian aid pursuits. Herrick was reappointed Ambassador to France by President Harding in 1921, serving until his death in 1929. the collection consists of 138 black and white photographs relating to Myron T. Herrick's ambassadorship in Paris, France.

 Abstract:  WomenSpace (1975-1995) was a Cleveland, Ohio, organization designed to bring together existing women's organizations to promote women's advocacy and to allay duplication of services and events. It was inspired by the 1975 International Year of the Woman event, sponsored by the United Nations in its quest to promote human rights. WomenSpace enabled member organizations to share resources and act as a collective power to work for the betterment of women and support social change. WomenSpace opened its first center in the Cleveland Metro Young Women's Christian Association (YWCA) in January of 1976 under the leadership of President Roberta Steinbacher and Executive Director Jane Campbell. The collection consists of 48 black and white prints, 4 color prints, 7 negatives, and 5 slides.

 Abstract:  George Magoffin Humphrey was the President of the M.A. Hanna Company, and United States Secretary of the Treasury (1953-1957). The collection consists of two albums, loose photographs, a notebook, and a booklet containing photographs related to the career of George M. Humphrey of Cleveland, Ohio. Included are portraits of Humphrey as a child, with President Dwight Eisenhower and various members of the Eisenhower administration, and with his wife, Pamela Stark Humphrey. Group photographs contain views of Eisenhower's second inauguration that include Vice President Richard M. Nixon; business associates of Humphrey; various ceremonies, receptions, and dinners attended by Humphrey and his wife; photographs of Humphrey receiving various honorary academic degrees at a number of institutions; Humphrey with Queen Elizabeth II of Great Britain; and travel photographs, including several trips with President Eisenhower and other cabinet members. A booklet contains photographs and maps relating to the operation of the Iron Ore Company of Canada. Other loose photographs contain views of work on a railroad to the Scheffeville Mines Iron Ore Company, a ceremony marking the completion of that railroad line, and ceremonies marking the first passage of an iron ore cargo from Canada to Cleveland, Ohio through the St. Lawrence Seaway.

 Abstract:  Adella Prentiss Hughes (1869-1950) was a musical impresario and founder and manager of the Cleveland Orchestra. Her grandparents, Benjamin and Rebecca Rouse, were leaders in various charitable and religious institutions in Cleveland, Ohio. The collection consists of one album containing clippings, some manuscript items, and primarily photographs, relating to the family of Adella Prentiss Hughes of Cleveland, Ohio. Included are portraits of Benjamin and Rebecca Cromwell Rouse, grandparents of Adella Prentiss Hughes; E. C. Rouse; Margaret Miller; Mary Miller Rouse; and H. C. Rouse.  Abstract:  Garrett A. Morgan (1877-1963) was an entrepreneur and inventor whose inventions included the electric traffic signal and the gas mask. Morgan moved to Cleveland, Ohio, in 1895 and opened his own sewing machine sales and repair shop in 1907. He received a patent on his gas mask in 1912 and formed the National Safety Device Co. to manufacture and market it. He also established the G.A. Morgan Hair Refining Co., The Cleveland Call and Post, and the Wakeman Country Club for African Americans. The collection consists of individual and group portraits of Garrett A. Morgan, his family, and friends. Also included are views of his residence, and of his inventions, including the gas mask, traffic signal, and a hair treatment system. The collection also includes views relating to the water intake crib disaster in Cleveland, Ohio in 1917.

 Abstract:  Thompson Products Inc. was established in 1900, in Cleveland, Ohio, as the Cleveland Cap Screw Company. It began producing automotive parts and underwent several reorganizations, becoming the Electric Welding Products Company (1908), the Steel Products Company (1915), and Thompson Products Inc. (1926). It expanded to include branch plants and the production of aircraft parts, and fostered a company union, the Automotive and Aircraft Workers Alliance (later the Aircraft Workers Alliance). It grew during World War II due to defense contracts. After the war it entered the jet and aerospace industries. It merged in 1958 with Ramo Wooldridge Corporation to become TRW Inc. Outside activities include the National Air Races and the Crawford Auto-Aviation Collection of the Western Reserve Historical Society. The collection consists of press releases intended to introduce new products or announce new achievements in the field of aviation and space, and includes images of aircraft, aviation, and space related subjects. These images were used by Thompson Products as a photographic reference of industry developments in aviation and space. The development of jet airframe technology between 1950 and 1965 is well represented in the collection, as well as space exploration and reusable space plane designs.

 Abstract:  James Abram Garfield (1831-1881) was the twentieth president of the United States. He grew up in Orange, Ohio, graduated from Williams College in 1856, became president of Hiram College in Portage County, Ohio, and was a lay minister of the Disciples of Christ Church. He was elected to the Ohio Senate, and in 1858, married Lucretia Rudolph. Garfield served in the Civil War, as a lieutenant-colonel of the 42nd Ohio regiment. He was a major general when he resigned in 1863 to take a seat in the United States House of Representatives, where he served for 17 years. Nominated in 1880 as a compromise Republican presidential candidate, his campaign was conducted from Lawnfield, his Mentor, Ohio, home. Garfield was shot on July 2, 1881, and died September 19. He was survived by his widow, Lucretia Garfield, and by his children; Mary, who married his former secretary, Joseph Stanley-Brown, Irvin McDowell, Harry Augustus, who became president of Williams College, James Rudolph, a Cleveland attorney, Republican politician and member of Theodore Roosevelt's cabinet, and Abram, a Cleveland architect. The collection consists of individual and group portraits of James A. Garfield; his wife, Lucretia Rudolph Garfield; his children and grandchildren; other Garfield and Rudolph family members; and portraits of nineteenth century statesmen that hung at Lawnfield and include Otto von Bismarck, Leon Michel Gambetta, William T. Sherman, and Edwin Stanton. Other portraits include James Smithson, Louis Agassiz, Benjamin Peirce, Edward Everett Hale and Carlisle P. Patterson. Views include Lawnfield, in particular a gathering of an unidentified group of African American Civil War veterans at Lawnfield; a lock on the Ohio and Erie Canal; voter turnout at the Mentor, Ohio Township Hall; the Civil War battle of Chickamauga; the James A. Garfield Monument in Lake View Cemetery; the James A. Garfield Memorial Window in The Williams College Chapel; and the James A. Garfield Memorial Statue in Washington, D. C. Also included are images of Lucretia Rudolph Garfield's inaugural ball gown displayed at the Smithsonian and the gown she wore at a White House reception. A presentation album from the Melbourne International Exhibition is also part of the collection.

 Abstract:  Abba Hillel Silver (1893-1963) was a Rabbi at The Temple-Tifereth Israel, Cleveland, Ohio, and prominent leader of the Zionist movement for a Jewish homeland. The collection consists of 120 black and white and 34 color photographs, including prints, drawings, slides, and stereo color transparencies. The collection is arranged by image content, then alphabetically by subject, and then chronologically. Of special note is a 1925 portfolio of the Jewish artist Frantisek Reichental's printed drawings of the Administrative Committee of the Zionist Organization of America, including Silver, Louis Lipsky (1876-1963), Emanuel Neumann (1893-1980), Henrietta Szold (1860-1945), and Stephen Wise (1874-1949).

 Abstract:  George Washington Crile (1864-1943) was an internationally-known surgeon and co-founder of the Cleveland Clinic, Cleveland, Ohio. He was also a respected medical scientist whose research and writings included surgical shock, glandular function, blood pressure and transfusion, shell shock, and the effects of wartime surgery. He served in the Army Medical Corps during the Spanish American War. During World War I, he was surgical director at the American Ambulance Hospital in Neuilly, France. In 1917, he organized and trained medical personnel from Lakeside Hospital, Cleveland, Ohio, who then served at United States Army Base Hospital No. 4 in Rouen, France. In 1921, he co-founded the Cleveland Clinic, serving as president (1921-1940) and as a trustee (1921-1936). In 1913, Crile helped found the American College of Surgeons, and was a member and officer not only of that organization, but also of the American Medical Association, American Surgical Association, Royal Academy of Surgeons, and the Royal Academy of Medicine. The collection consists of six albums and two containers of loose photographs. Subjects included are photographs of the Cleveland Gatling Gun Battery, members, and relatives at an unknown location ca., 1900; 3 albums owned by Ella T. Wright of views of trips through New England in 1889, to Great Brewster Island, Massachusetts, in 1890, and aboard the steamer Japan through the Great Lakes in 1890; an album containing views relating to the Spanish American War taken by George W. Crile including scenes aboard the troop transport U.S.S. Yale, scenes of the Puerto Rican campaign, and photographs of Puerto Rican natives; five enlargements of Puerto Rican operations photographs from the previous album; photographs of the Cleveland Lakeside Hospital Unit at the United States Army Philadelphia Base Hospital, 1916; the Lakeside Hospital Unit primarily at Army Base Hospital No. 4, Rouen, France, ca. 1917-1920, including personnel, buildings, living conditions, and general scenes; charts and cartoons relating to the Lakeside Hospital Unit; photographs of wounds and wounded cared for by the Lakeside Hospital Unit in France, ca. 1917-1918; charts and photographs of hospital apparatus used during World War I; photographs relating to shell shock experiments conducted by Dr. Crile during World War I; photographs relating to an unidentified medical experiment; photographs of an anti-war nature; photographs relating generally to France and World War I, ca. 1917-1918; and printed material relating to Dr. Crile's medical photographs.

 Abstract:  John Devereux was a sea captain of Marblehead, Massachusetts. John H. Devereux was a Civil War officer, engineer, railroad executive, and philanthropist, of Cleveland, Ohio. Henry K. Devereux was an engineer, real estate agent, industrialist, philanthropist, and harness-horse fancier, of Cleveland. The collection consists of five albums, unmounted photographs, and stereographs relating to the life and interests of various Devereux family members of Cleveland, Ohio. In addition to many individual portraits of Devereux family members and friends, the collection includes group portraits of the Cleveland Gatling Gun Battery; various coaching groups; gatherings at North Randall and Wickliffe, Ohio; and horses, drivers, and harness racing. Included are stereographs (ca. 1890-1910) of the Devereux farm in the South, the Medina County, Ohio, fair (1910), and the North Randall, Ohio race track.

 Abstract:  Marie Remington Wing (1885-1982) was a Cleveland, Ohio, lawyer who served on the Cleveland City Council (1923-1927), as Solicitor for the Village of Mentor, Ohio (1929-1936), and as Regional Attorney for the Social Security Board (1936-1953). She was also involved in numerous professional, civic, and health organizations in Cleveland and in Mentor. Wing came from a distinguished Cleveland family, which included her uncle, George Clary Wing, an author and attorney who served in several United States government departments. Marie's father, Francis Joseph Wing, was a judge in the Cuyahoga County Court of Common Pleas and in the United States District Court for Northern Ohio. Her older sister, Virginia Remington Wing, was, like Marie, a social activist, working for the Red Cross, the Cleveland Anti-Tuberculosis League, and the Cleveland Health Council's Health Education Department. She was also the secretary of both the Brush Foundation and the Sight Saving Council. Marie's longtime companion, Dorothy Smith, worked with the YWCA, founded an insurance business, and was an executive for the East End Neighborhood House. Marie Wing's niece, Stephanie Ralph, was a school psychologist, and her husband, Paul Ralph, was also prominent in the academic world. The collection consists of individual and group portraits of Marie R. Wing, her family and friends, and views of residences and travels.

 Abstract:  Clifford W. Henderson (1895-1984) was the director of the National Air Races, 1928-1939, as well as other air races and expositions. Henderson managed and promoted sporting and cultural events, expositions, and conventions in the Los Angeles area after resigning from the National Air Races. He served with honor in North Africa during World War II, and founded the community of Palm Desert, California. The collection consists of individual and group portraits of Clifford W. Henderson and his associates, including studio portraits and candid site photographs, often autographed; views of the National Air Races, including air race events and individual planes; and panoramic and oversize photographs. Individuals pictured include Pancho Barnes, Vincent Bendix, Jacqueline Cochran, Frederick C. Crawford, James Doolittle, Amelia Earhart, Harvey Firestone, Jr., Charles A.
